This Business of Writing: How Do We Navigate It To Be Published?
Did you know that I am a voracious reader of blogs, websites and other print and online materials that deal with the writing community? I am a student of the business of writing. I have read blog after blog, article after article and still I read more because it changes as it goes on. Some of the blogs that I read are as follows:

Those are some of the blogs and websites that I visit on a somewhat daily basis. The ones that I visit on a daily basis have an asterisk ”*” next to them. They I find will help you out. The ones that I read on a semi daily basis have two asterisk “**” by them.
If you get the chance, don’t take my word for it, just go and read them for yourselves. You may or may not find them helpful. What I like is this- when I read them I find answers to questions that come up as I read or write. What I like is that when I read I find answers to problems about publicizing or how to make my life a little better as a newbie writer who is as yet unpublished in a novel form but published in an online form. Building your brand is important. Your brand is how they know you. These blogs and websites will help you do that.
There are of course a couple of online and in person classes you can take to help you out. One of them I suggest is Gothams Writers Workshop. As for the online, I have only taken the Gothams course none of the others yet, so I will not tell you about them but they are out there. If you participate in www.writerschatroom.com chat which happens twice a week, once on Wednesdays at 8pm until 10pm., and Sundays are author chats which starts at 7pm until 9 pm, you will find courses given by some of the authors there discussing branding, building your blog and writing your novel. A lot of the authors there are published authors with their own publishing houses; their own following and they are more than happy to help you out and give you advice. They are like your very own cheering band.
I have found out that if you have questions anyone who writes will be more than happy to talk to you about the business itself. They also will give out their emails or website addresses for you to follow them and along the way you may make some friends.
So in this business of publishing a novel, I suggest we remember three things- writing your novel isn’t easy and it is only the first step in the process of getting your novel published; networking, advertising and meeting the right group to help you publish your novel is also a long process, one that we can’t begin to understand until we are in the process of doing it and finally that even after its written and published our work as the writer is not done. That was the only the beginning. You and I have a long way to go. But look at all the authors who have gone before us and are doing rather well in this game of publishing. We have a lot to do and a lot of persons who may help us out on our journey to being successful published writers. Take advantage of their advice, and mine if you think it is worth anything. And just write.
